What Kind Of Wood Fence Lasts The Longest?

Finding the ideal fence for your property necessitates a great deal of thought. Fence materials, colors, designs, and protection are all considerations, as is keeping the fence aesthetically appealing around your house. To maintain the integrity of your house, you must incorporate a fence into the architectural and aesthetic design; however, the two most important things to consider for your new fence are longevity and durability.

Not all forests are created equal. Although the appearance of the wood you choose for your new fence is important, the longevity of the wood you choose is also important.

A wood fence will last for 15 years or more on average. The length of time depends on the climate, the atmosphere, the level of maintenance given, and the type of wood used. When the fence starts to deteriorate, you won't have to replace it all at once. As required, individual boards or beams can be replaced.

In general, cedar fences will last anywhere from 15 to 30 years. The second position goes to Treated Pine, which can last up to 20 years.

Now, here are some of the most commonly used woods for fences:

CEDAR

Cedar fences are the most durable, lasting 15 to 30 years on average. One of the most common options is cedar. It has a natural insect resistance and is slow to decay. Cedar fences can last up to 40 years if properly maintained. A sealant may be selected to balance the cedar's exposure to the sun and the conditions it will face. The cedar is a good-looking wood at first, but it doesn't need to be handled, and it will mature to a silvery gray color. While cedar can be painted, many people choose to stain it because it is such a beautiful wood. For privacy fences, cedar is often used.

CYPRESS

Cypress and redwood have properties and durability comparable to cedar, but they are more expensive. Since it has to be shipped in from the south, cypress is costly. If you're worried about termites, this wood is a good option because it's naturally insect-resistant. It takes a long time to rot after being cleaned. Cypress has a pleasant aroma and few knots. As it ages, it makes honey gold.

REDWOOD

The most expensive wood is most definitely redwood. It has many of the same advantages as cedar, but some people prefer it because of its reddish-brown hue. It will, however, turn silvery gray as it ages. Once or twice a year, apply a clear dye, sealer, or oil to keep the shine.

PINE

Pine fences last 12 to 15 years, and if sealed or painted every few years, they will last much longer. Pine is a common wood choice that is less expensive. The rise in maintenance offsets the cost. Since pine is a softwood, it must be painted or sealed to keep rot and insects at bay. These treatments protect the wood from UV radiation and organic materials. To keep insects at bay and prevent rot, some pine woods are pressure handled. These pines will live for up to 20 years. Pine has a tendency to warp and crack.

SPRUCE

Spruce is a reasonably priced tree, but it only lasts four to seven years. It can last for up to 20 years if properly handled. It, like pine, needs a lot of upkeep. If it is exposed to a lot of water, it is vulnerable to warping. If you want to keep the silvery gray color of spruce, a transparent stain may be used. Prefabricated, stockade-style, or picket fences are often made of spruce.

OAKWOOD

Oakwood is a hardwood that is mostly found in the northern hemisphere. It is thought to be the most long-lasting type of wood. Since it has a grainy texture and a highlight, you might only need one coat of shiny material. There's nothing else you need to do. It darkens over time as a result of oxidation. It has a life expectancy of more than 50 years.
